things. For everything, whether true or false, is known to Him, glorified be He. Rather, the meaning is that He sent it down containing His knowledge. Its being sent down containing His knowledge is itself a sign that it comes from Him and that it is true and truthful.

Similar to this is His saying:

25:6 “Say, ‘It has been sent down by the One who knows every secret in the heavens and the earth.’”

He, glorified be He, mentioned this to refute and rebut those who said, “He fabricated it.”

Another aspect of His testimony is what He has placed in His servants’ hearts: firm belief, unwavering certainty, and reassurance in His speech and revelation.

For it is contrary to the established course of things for such certainty to arise from what would constitute the gravest lies and fabrications against the Lord of all worlds, falsely describing His names and attributes. Rather, such falsehood would cause the greatest doubt and uncertainty. Sound innate dispositions and minds reject it, just as the natural instincts of animals reject foul, harmful substances that provide no nourishment, such as urine and putrid matter. Allah, glorified be He, has created hearts with an innate disposition to accept the truth, submit to it, find reassurance and repose in it, and love it. He has likewise created them with an innate disposition to hate lies and falsehood, recoil from them, distrust them, and find no repose in them. Hearts find reassurance only in the truth and love nothing else.

For this reason, Allah, Almighty and Majestic, has urged His servants to reflect upon the Quran. Whoever reflects upon it gains, through that reflection, immediate knowledge and firm certainty that it is true and truthful—indeed, the truest of all truth and the most truthful of all speech—and that the one who brought it is the most truthful of Allah’s creation, the most righteous, and the most perfect in knowledge, deeds, and understanding. As the Most High says:

4:82 “Do they not reflect upon the Quran? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.”

And the Most High says:

47:24 “Do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?”

Were the locks removed from hearts, the truths of the Quran would touch them directly, the lamps of faith would shine within them, and they would know with the same immediate certainty they have of other inward experiences—joy and pain,
