and His wisdom, His might, and His transcendent perfection utterly preclude this. Whoever thinks this of Him and considers it possible is among those furthest from knowing Him, even if he knows some of His attributes, such as His power and His will.

The Quran abounds in this way of reasoning. It is the way of the select—indeed, the select of the select—who reason from Allah Himself concerning His actions, what befits Him to do, and what He does not do.

If you reflect on the Quran, you will find it proclaiming this, setting it forth repeatedly for anyone who has understanding and a heart receptive to what Allah conveys. Allah Most High says:

69:44 “Had he attributed some fabricated statements to Us, We would have seized him by the right hand, 45 then severed his aorta, 46 and none of you could have shielded him from Us. 47”

Do you not see how He, glorified be He, declares that His perfection, wisdom, and power preclude His allowing anyone who fabricates statements about Him to continue unchecked? Rather, He would make him a lesson for His servants, as has been His established way with those who fabricate statements about Him. Allah Most High also says:

42:24 “Or do they say, ‘He has fabricated a lie about Allah’? If Allah wills, He can seal your heart.”

Here the consequent of the conditional sentence ends. He then makes a categorical, unconditional declaration: “Allah wipes out falsehood and establishes the truth by His words”—namely, that He wipes out falsehood and establishes the truth.

Allah Most High says:

6:91 “They have not given Allah His due recognition when they say, ‘Allah has revealed nothing to any human being.’”

He thus declares that whoever denies that He sends messengers and speaks has not given Him His due recognition, known Him as he should, or magnified Him as He deserves. What, then, of someone who thinks that He would grant victory to a liar who fabricates falsehoods about Him, support him, and manifest signs and proofs through him?

This occurs very frequently in the Quran: He adduces His transcendent perfection, His attributes, and His majesty as evidence of the truthfulness of His messengers and of His promise and warning, and calls His servants to reason in this way. Likewise, He adduces His names and attributes as evidence of His oneness and the falsehood of associating partners with Him, as in His words:

59:22–23 “He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Giver of Security, the Guardian, the Almighty, the Compeller,
