out of consummate wisdom and through an ordered system of causes arranged by the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. The hypocrite’s share of that rain was therefore nothing but its clouds, thunder, and lightning. He did not know what lay beyond them. Thus, he recoiled from what comforted the believers, distrusted what reassured those endowed with knowledge, and doubted what those endowed with insight and understanding knew with certainty. In the parable of fire, his sight is like that of a bat at high noon; in the parable of water, his hearing is like that of someone who dies from the sound of thunder. Indeed, some animals are said to die upon hearing thunder.
When satanic doubts, corrupt imaginings, and false suppositions encounter such minds, ears, and eyes, they run rampant within them and take complete possession of them. They find ample scope there and generate endless chatter, filling people’s ears with their ravings and the earth with their volumes. How numerous are those who respond to these people, accept their claims, promote their cause, defend their domain, fight beneath their banners, and swell their ranks! Because the affliction they cause is so widespread, and their words so harmful to hearts, Allah utterly tore away their veils in His Book and exposed them completely. He explained their distinguishing marks, deeds, and words. He, Almighty and Majestic, repeatedly said, “And among them…,” “And among them…,” “And among them…” «1», until their condition was exposed, their true nature became clear, and their secrets were revealed.
[Surah al-Baqarah (2): Verse 25]
“And give glad tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with fruit from them, they will say, ‘This is what we were provided with before.’ They will be given fruits resembling one another. They will have purified spouses there, and there they will remain forever.” (25)
Reflect, then, on the majesty, rank, truthfulness, and greatness of the bearer of these glad tidings, and on the greatness of the One who sent him to you with them. He has given you these glad tidings, guaranteed their fulfillment for you, and made it exceedingly easy for you. In these glad tidings, He, glorified be He, brings together bodily delight in the gardens and what they contain
