Thus, appointing an imam for these prayers is recommended, since they may validly be performed either in congregation or individually. A person appointed to lead the five daily prayers or to conduct the Friday prayer does not thereby have authority to lead these prayers, unless he is appointed over all the prayers, in which case they fall within the general scope of his appointment.
[The Eid Prayer]
As for the Eid prayer, its time extends from sunrise until the sun’s decline from the meridian. It is preferable to offer the Eid al-Adha prayer early and to delay the Eid al-Fitr prayer. During the nights of both Eids, people recite the takbīr from sunset until they begin the Eid prayer. Eid al-Adha is distinguished by the recitation of takbīr after the obligatory prayers, beginning after the dawn prayer on the Day of Arafah and continuing until after the afternoon prayer on the last day of the Days of Tashrīq. The two Eid prayers are performed before the sermon, whereas the Friday prayer is performed afterward, in accordance with the Sunnah concerning both. The two Eid prayers are distinguished by additional takbīrs: six in the first prayer, apart from the opening takbīr, and five in the second, apart from the takbīr upon rising, before the recitation in each.
