Al-ṢafadiyyahIbn Taimiya

In the Sunan collections it is related from Muʿādh that the Prophet—may God bless him and grant him peace—said:

“Whoever’s last words are ‘There is no god but God’ shall enter Paradise.”

This affirmation of Divine oneness (tawḥīd) entails affirming for God every attribute of perfection, denying all imperfection, rejecting any resemblance between Him and created things, and recognizing His exclusive right to love, worship, veneration, and the like. The people of knowledge and faith differ only in proportion to their realization of this tawḥīd, as has been elaborated elsewhere. God knows best.

The principle is hereby concluded, taken from the words of Shaykh al-Islām, the scholar of the community, Taqī al-Dīn Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Taymiyyah al-Ḥanbalī, author of The Criterion Between the Allies of the Most Merciful and the Allies of Satan.
