And He, exalted is He, said:
“Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?”
(Qur’an 2:255)
Concerning the angels He said:
“They do not intercede except for those with whom He is pleased, and they themselves stand in awe of Him.”
(Qur’an 21:28)
He also said:
“How many an angel there is in the heavens whose intercession will avail nothing—until Allah gives leave to whom He wills and with whom He is pleased.”
(Qur’an 53:26)
And He said:
“Say: ‘Call upon those whom you allege besides Allah. They do not possess even an atom’s weight in the heavens or on the earth, nor have they any share in either of them, nor is any helper among them who could aid Him.’”
(Qur’an 34:22)
He, the Most High, also said:
“Intercession with Him is of no benefit except for those to whom He grants permission. When the dread is lifted from their hearts, they will say, ‘What has your Lord said?’ They will answer, ‘The Truth, and He is the Most High, the Supreme.’”
(Qur’an 34:23)
Authentic reports from the Companions and the Successors explain this verse, stating that when the angels hear Allah speak revelation they swoon; then, when the terror is removed from them, they say—“What has your Lord said?”—and reply, “The Truth, and He is the Most High, the Supreme.”
And He said:
“O you who believe, spend of what We have provided you before there comes a Day in which there will be no bargaining, no close friendship, and no intercession.”
(Qur’an 2:254)
