“And to the people of ʿĀd We sent their brother Hūd, who said, ‘My people, worship God; you have no deity other than Him.’” (Sūrat Hūd 11:50)
All the prophets issued the very same call, and passages of this tenor are many. Human perfection, uprightness, and true felicity consist in worshipping God alone with no partner whatsoever. This is the creed of Abraham, about which God says:
“Who would turn away from the creed of Abraham except one who debases himself?” (Sūrat al-Baqarah 2:130)
and He says:
“Indeed, whoever submits his face to God while excelling in good deeds shall have his reward with his Lord; no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.” (Sūrat al-Baqarah 2:112)
This is the universal Islam with which God sent all the messengers, and it is the only religion He will accept from anyone, whether of earlier or later generations.
God, exalted is He, said concerning Noah:
“My people, if my presence among you and my reminding you of God’s signs have become too burdensome for you, then I put my trust in God. Muster your decision and your partners together so that your affair be not obscure to you; then carry it out against me and give me no respite. If you turn away, I have asked you for no reward; my reward lies only with God, and I have been commanded to be among the Muslims.” (Sūrat Yūnus 10:71–72)
And He said concerning Abraham:
“Who would turn away from the creed of Abraham except one who debases himself? We certainly chose him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will indeed be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I submit to the Lord of all beings.’ Abraham enjoined this upon his sons—and so did Jacob—saying, ‘My sons, God has chosen the religion for you; so do not die except in a state of Islam.’” (Sūrat al-Baqarah 2:130–132)
