He has declared that He reinforced them with hosts of angels who gave them victory. In the earlier verses He spoke of the angels coming down with knowledge and revelation, whereas in these verses He speaks of their descent with victory and might. This shows that whatever knowledge and power the Messenger received—whether through unveiling or through his influence upon the world—came from beyond his own natural faculties: it was the knowledge the angels brought down and the victory they brought down.

Moreover, Allah, exalted be He, says:

“If only you could see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieve, striking their faces and their backs and saying, ‘Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.’” (Q 8:50)

He also says:

“Indeed, those whom the angels take in death while they were wronging themselves—the angels will say, ‘What state were you in?’ They will answer, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’” (Q 16:28)

And He says:

“Those whom the angels take in death while they are good and pure—they will say, ‘Peace be upon you; enter Paradise for what you used to do.’ Are they waiting for anything but that the angels should come to them, or the command of your Lord should arrive?” (Q 16:32–33)

These verses inform us that the angels seize the souls, address the dead—either with glad tidings or with rebuke—and carry out upon them whatever bliss or torment they are to receive.

Likewise, He says:

“Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast—the angels descend upon them, saying, ‘Do not fear or grieve, but rejoice in the Paradise you have been promised. We are your allies in the life of this world and in the Hereafter, and therein you shall have whatever your souls desire…’” (Q 41:30–31)
