what is conferred by revelation and inspiration—touching the so-called “sacred faculty” and other faculties as well. Moreover, the Exalted One says:
“O you who believe, remember Allah’s favor upon you: when hosts advanced against you, We sent against them a wind and forces you did not see, and Allah is ever Watchful of what you do.” (Q 33:9)
He thus informs us that, along with the wind, He dispatched hosts unseen by the believers.
The Most High also says:
“And on the Day of Ḥunayn, when your great numbers pleased you but they availed you nothing, and the earth, vast as it was, closed in upon you and you turned back in retreat—then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and He sent down forces you did not see. He punished those who disbelieved; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.” (Q 9:25–26)
So He tells us that He sent tranquility upon His Messenger and the believers, and together with it hosts they did not perceive.
He, exalted is He, says further:
“When you said to the believers, ‘Will it not suffice you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?’ Indeed it will! And if you remain steadfast and mindful of Allah, and they come upon you suddenly, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels, clearly marked.” (Q 3:124–125)
And He says:
“When you cried for help to your Lord, He answered you: ‘I am going to reinforce you with a thousand angels, rank upon rank.’ Allah made this only as glad tidings … until His words: ‘When your Lord revealed to the angels, “I am with you, so strengthen those who believe.”’” (Q 8:9–12)
