“Mary, daughter of ʿImrān, and Āsiyah bint Muzāḥim”—that is, two women from the communities before us, and it was Āsiyah who fostered Moses. Among the women who reached perfection without being prophets were Khadījah, Āsiyah the wife of Pharaoh, and others besides them. Yet the prophets are superior to all others; had any of those women been a prophet, it would mean that a non-prophet could excel a prophet, or that one who is less than perfect could surpass the perfect.
Furthermore, God has described the angels with attributes that require them to be living, speaking beings, wholly beyond human capacity and beyond the intellects and souls affirmed by the philosophers. Hence it is evident that the angels spoken of by the prophets are not the same as what is claimed by those who say that prophetic miracles are nothing more than psychic powers.
