“…a fattened calf. He set it before them and said, ‘Will you not eat?’ Then he felt some fear of them, but they said, ‘Do not be afraid,’ and they gave him glad tidings of a knowledgeable son. His wife came forward with a shriek, struck her face, and exclaimed, ‘A barren old woman!’ They said, ‘So has your Lord decreed; He alone is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.’
Abraham said, ‘And what is your mission, O messengers?’ They replied, ‘We have been sent to a guilty people, to rain down upon them stones of clay, marked by your Lord for the transgressors.’” (Qur’an 51:27–34)
The Exalted also said:
“Indeed, Our messengers came to Abraham with good news. They said, ‘Peace.’ He answered, ‘Peace,’ and it was not long before he brought a roasted calf. But when he saw that their hands did not reach for it, he found them strange and felt apprehensive. They said, ‘Do not fear; we have been sent to the people of Lot.’ His wife was standing by, and she laughed; so We gave her glad tidings of Isaac, and after Isaac, Jacob. She said, ‘Alas for me! Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this husband of mine is an aged man? This is indeed a strange thing!’ They said, ‘Do you marvel at Allah’s command? Allah’s mercy and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. He is indeed Praiseworthy, Glorious.’
When Abraham’s fear had passed and the good news had reached him, he began to plead with Us concerning Lot’s people. Abraham was truly forbearing, tender-hearted, and ever-turning to Allah. We said, ‘O Abraham, turn away from this. The decree of your Lord has come, and punishment that cannot be averted is descending upon them.’
And when Our messengers came to Lot…” (Qur’an 11:69–77, partial)
