In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
There is no power and no might except through God, the Most High, the Most Great.
Shaykh al-Islam, the eminent scholar and guiding light of the age, exemplar for later generations, Taqī al-Dīn Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad—son of the learned Shaykh al-Islam Shihāb al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ḥalīm, son of the illustrious Shaykh al-Islam Majd al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Salām Ibn Taymiyyah, may God be pleased with him and grant him His good pleasure—was asked about a Muslim who claims that the miracles of the prophets, peace be upon them, are merely psychic forces. “Please issue for us a ruling and may you be rewarded.”
He replied:
Praise be to God, Lord of all worlds.
The statement that the miracles of the prophets, peace be upon them, are simply psychic forces is false; rather, it is outright unbelief. Its proponent must be summoned to repent, and the truth must be set before him. If, after the Sharʿī proof has been established, he persists in holding this belief, he is deemed a disbeliever; and if, after being given the chance to repent, he continues to publicize it, he is to be executed.
This notion comes from a faction of the pseudo-philosophers and the Qarmatians.
