The Exalted has also said:
“Or like the one who passed by a township that lay in utter ruin. He said, ‘How will Allah restore this to life after its death?’ So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then brought him back to life. He said, ‘How long have you remained?’ He answered, ‘A day, or part of a day.’ He said, ‘No—you have remained a hundred years. Look at your food and drink; they have not spoiled. And look at your donkey. We have done this so that We might make you a sign for mankind. And look at the bones, how We raise them up and then clothe them with flesh.’ When the matter became clear to him, he said, ‘I know that Allah has power over all things.’” (2:259)
Allah, exalted be He, has likewise mentioned how the Messiah restored the dead to life by Allah’s permission, and He has recounted the story of the Companions of the Cave, who remained asleep for three hundred solar years—three hundred and nine lunar years—without eating or drinking. He, the Exalted, says:
“Thus We caused them to be discovered so that they might know that Allah’s promise is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour.” (18:21)
These accounts in which Allah revives human beings after their death, time and again; brings a donkey back to life; preserves food and drink for a hundred years without change; keeps sleepers for three hundred and nine years; and tears four birds into pieces, placing each part upon a mountain and then calling them so that they hasten to Abraham, the Friend, peace be upon him—all of these contain many lessons, among them the confirmation of miracles.
