For that reason the early generations—the Salaf—and the leading Imams would censure the scholastic theologians who engaged in such discourse, for it contains a measure of falsehood. They forbade countering an innovation with another innovation, answering falsehood with falsehood, or repelling corruption with corruption. Nevertheless, although this speech is indeed blameworthy, one cannot deny that it is still better than the discourse of those others. Likewise, even though we condemn the injustice and ignorance that exist among some Muslims, we know that what is found among the unbelievers is even greater; and while we do not deny the presence of ignorance and injustice among certain members of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamāʿah, we are well aware that ignorance and injustice are even more widespread among the Rāfiḍah.
