[Comment by the preparer of the al-Shāmila edition] * The Al-Dār al-Misriyya al-Lubnāniyya edition opens the treatise as follows: “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. His help we seek. Shaykh and Imam Abū al-ʿAbbās Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Halīm ibn ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Taymiyya, may Allah have mercy on him, said: A question concerning these hadiths circulating among people and cited by storytellers and others.” Most hadiths and reports in this edition are preceded by the phrase: “And from him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” The Dār al-Āthār edition opens the treatise as follows: “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn Ahmad ibn Taymiyya, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about hadiths narrated by storytellers and others in the streets and elsewhere.” Most hadiths and reports in this edition are preceded by the phrase: “And what they narrate from him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” Most of Shaykh al-Islām’s answers are preceded by: “He replied.”
