“Travel through the earth,” and likewise: “Roam freely in the earth.” People also say, “So-and-so is in the mountain,” or “in the rooftop,” even though he is actually on the very highest part of it.
Fifth Principle – We apprehend what we have been informed of in one respect while remaining ignorant of it in another. Allah the Exalted says: “Will they not ponder the Qur’an? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would surely have found much contradiction in it” (4:82). He also says: “Have they not reflected on the Word?” (23:68); and: “A blessed Book We have sent down to you so that they may ponder its verses, and that those of sound intellect may take heed” (38:29); and: “Do they not contemplate the Qur’an, or are there locks upon their hearts?” (47:24). In all of these He commands us to reflect upon the entire Scripture.
He likewise says: “It is He who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses that are unambiguous—these are the foundation of the Book—while others are ambiguous. Those whose hearts are deviant follow what is ambiguous in it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation; yet none knows its interpretation…”
