as acting, in His statement, “A reward for what they used to do” (56:24). Yet His acting is not like their acting.
In the same way He has attributed to Himself calling out and intimate converse, saying, “We called to him from the right side of the Mount and drew him close in intimate discourse” (19:52), “On the Day He will call them” (28:65), and, “Their Lord called out to them both” (7:22). He likewise attributes calling and private converse to His servant, saying, “Those who call out to you from behind the private chambers—most of them lack understanding” (49:4), “When you privately converse with the Messenger …” (58:12), and, “When you confer privately, do not confer in sin and transgression” (58:9). Yet His calling is not like their calling, nor His intimate discourse like their intimate discourse.
He has further described Himself as speaking, in His words, “And Allah spoke to Moses directly” (4:164), and, “When Moses came to Our appointed time and He spoke to him …” (7:143).
