made unlawful. The sound religion, however, is that nothing is forbidden except what Allah has declared forbidden, and no religion is valid except what He Himself has legislated.
Categories of People in Worshipping Allah and Seeking His Help
In their worship of Him and their reliance upon Him, people fall into four categories:
-
The believing, God-fearing servants: they belong to Him and depend on Him; they worship Him and seek His aid.
-
A group that worships Him without reliance or patience. You will notice in one of them eagerness for obedience, scrupulous piety, and adherence to the Sunnah, yet they have neither trust in Allah, nor reliance upon Him, nor patience. Instead, weakness and agitation dominate them.
-
A group endowed with reliance, trust, and patience but lacking steadfastness in obeying the command and following the Sunnah. One of them may be granted a measure of empowerment and possess a certain spiritual state both inwardly and outwardly; he may receive unveilings and influences not granted to the first group. Yet he has no praiseworthy outcome, for he is not among the God-fearing, and the good end belongs to piety. The first group possesses a weak practice of religion, but it endures and remains so long as its practitioner does not ruin it through panic.
