- As He, exalted is He, says: “Do you not know that Allah knows whatever is in the heaven and the earth? Indeed, all of that is in a Record; and that, for Allah, is easy.” (al-Ḥajj 70)
- And He says: “No calamity befalls on earth or within yourselves except that it is inscribed in a Book before We bring it into existence; indeed, that is easy for Allah.” (al-Ḥadīd 22)
- This decree, which follows from His all-encompassing knowledge, is written both in summary and in detail, in various circumstances.
- For He has inscribed in the Preserved Tablet whatever He willed.
- Then, when the body of the embryo is formed—before the soul is breathed into it—He sends an angel who is ordered with four words: “Record its provision, its lifespan, its deeds, and whether it will be wretched or blessed,” and the like.
- This aspect of the decree was formerly denied by the extremists among the Qadariyyah, and today only a few continue to reject it.
