A Point of Benefit
Nasr ibn ʿAli said, “My father told me: ‘I saw al-Khalil ibn Ahmad (1) in a dream, and he said, “Have you seen what we used to busy ourselves with—meaning grammar and language? Your Lord, exalted is He, does not regard it in the least. I have found nothing more beneficial than: subḥān Allah (Glory be to Allah), al-ḥamdu li-llāh (praise belongs to Allah), lā ilāha illā Allah (there is no god but Allah), and Allahu akbar (Allah is Most Great).”’ (2)
