163 — As the Exalted One says: “There is not a thing but that it glorifies Him with His praise; yet you do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He has always been Forbearing, Forgiving” (al-Isrāʾ 17:44).
164 — Tawḥīd therefore demands the negation of every rival, likeness, or counterpart. It represents the full realization of taḥmīd: taḥmīd establishes His perfection and denies all deficiency, while tawḥīd denies that He has any equal or peer.
Explanation of His words: “and glorify with the praise of your Lord”
165 — Concerning His statement, “and glorify with the praise of your Lord” (Ṭāhā 20:130), many exegetes have interpreted it to mean: “perform the prayer, extolling and praising your Lord.” Ibn al-Jawzī records no other view, saying, “‘and glorify with the praise of your Lord’: that is, pray to Him while praising and lauding Him.” (1)
Interpreting tasbīḥ as the prayer
166 — Understanding tasbīḥ here as “the prayer” is supported by authentic hadiths and numerous reports, such as the previously cited narration of Jarīr. (2)
167 — As for the phrase “with the praise of your Lord,” they have explained it—as mentioned above—to mean: by praising your Lord, thanking your Lord, obeying your Lord, and worshiping your Lord; that is, through your remembrance, gratitude, obedience, and worship of Him.
