; nor does he revere and honor anyone as he reveres and honors Allah.
78 — Whoever places Him on a par with anything else in any respect is a polytheist, for even the idolaters did not regard Him as equal to others in every [matter] (A). No descendant of Adam has ever claimed such a thing, and it is, by its very nature, something all people recognize as impossible. Some among them have denied Him outright and preferred another over Him in worship and obedience, yet even so they never affirmed complete equality between Him and anything else in every respect, but only in many respects. Therefore, whoever equates Him with another in any matter whatsoever is a polytheist.
79 — Allah the Exalted says: “All praise is due to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and brought forth darkness and light; yet those who disbelieve set up equals to their Lord” (6:1).
That is: they set up others as His equal. It is said: ʿadala bihi means he made something equal to, or a counterpart of, something else.
80 — He also says: “And Hell will be brought forth for the deviant … until they say, ‘… when we equated you with the Lord of all worlds’” (26:91-98).
81 — And He says: “Yet among people are those who take others besides Allah as equals, loving them as they ought to love Allah” (2:165).
