In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Editorial Introduction All praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from the consequences of our misdeeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whomsoever He allows to stray, none can guide. I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. To proceed: This is a new volume—a precious work being published for the first time—by the Qurʾanic scholar and devoted struggler in Allah’s cause, the Shaykh of Islam and of the Muslims, Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). We present it to all men and women who engage in the remembrance of Allah, hoping they will find in it that which brings them serenity, tranquility, and the descent of mercy: “Those who believe and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah—surely, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (al-Raʿd 28). Tasbīḥ (saying “Subḥān Allāh”), taḥmīd (saying “al-ḥamdu lillāh”), tahlīl (saying “lā ilāha illā Allāh”), and takbīr (saying “Allāhu akbar”) head the list of acts of remembrance; they occupy the highest and most noble stations of dhikr.
