124 – As Muslim narrates in his Ṣaḥīḥ, and the four compilers of the Sunan likewise relate (1), ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth said: “I saw the Prophet ﷺ on the pulpit wearing a black turban, the end of which he had let hang between his shoulders.”
125 – They also report from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh that the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca in the Year of the Conquest wearing a black turban (2).
His ﷺ practice of wearing whatever suited each occasion
126 – This narration makes no mention of a hanging tail, because on the Day of the Conquest he entered in full battle dress with a mighfar (mail coif) on his head (3). Thus he would wear, on every occasion, whatever best suited it (4).
Binding the waist
127 – With regard to “binding the waist,” some of the Companions used the end of their turban to secure their waist, while others fought without binding it at all.
128 – The mintaqa (belt) is likewise mentioned in a number of early reports.
