Qāʿidah fī Libās al-NabīIbn Taimiya

—Yemeni weave, for Yemen lay close to them. At times they also donned garments imported from Syria and Egypt, such as the qabāṭī (1), linen cloth woven by the Copts.
105 – This too is reported in the Sunan collections (2).

(1) Al-qubatis are fine white garments woven in Egypt; the singular is qubtiyya or qibtiyya. See Al-Imlaʾ al-Mukhtasar fi Sharh Gharib al-Siyar, 3/33. Awn al-Maʿbud, 11/174, citing Al-Nihaya and Al-Misbah, explains that the name is derived from the Copts (the people of Egypt) and designates a thin white linen cloth made there. (2) Reported by Abu Dawud, 4060; al-Tirmidhi, 1787 (who graded it hasan sahih gharib); al-Nasai, al-Kubra, 9646, and in al-Mujtaba, 8/203, no. 5315; and Ahmad, Musnad, 3/134, 184, 251, 291.
