and another said, “I will not sleep on a bed.”
He then praised Allah and extolled Him, saying, “What is the matter with people who make such claims? I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my sunnah has nothing to do with me.”
76 – In the two Ṣaḥīḥs (1) it is narrated from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rejected ʿUthmān ibn Maʿẓūn’s wish to adopt celibacy; had he granted him permission, we would have castrated ourselves.
Definition of the one who turns away from the Prophet’s sunnah
77 – The person who turns away from his sunnah is the one who abandons it for something else, preferring that alternative over it; for this reason the Prophet ﷺ disowned him.
78 – He also said, “Whoever cheats us is not one of us, and whoever raises a weapon against us is not one of us.” (2)
79 – As for someone who does not abandon the sunnah but merely opts for the less excellent practice while still believing in and loving the Prophet’s guidance as superior, he incurs no sin—unless he omits an obligation or commits something forbidden.
