67 – In Sunan Abī Dāwūd (1) it is narrated that the Prophet ﷺ bought a pair of sarāwīl (trousers). A professional weigher, who charged a fee for his service, was weighing them, whereupon the Prophet said, “Weigh accurately and add a little more.” He then remarked, “The best of people are those who are best in settling their dues.” Another wording simply states that he purchased trousers.
The preferable attire when wearing a qamīs or a ridāʾ
68 – The scholars have said: what is preferable is that with a qamīs (tunic) one wears sarāwīl (trousers), and with a ridāʾ—the cloak that is draped over the shoulders—one wears an izār (waist-wrapper). This is because sarāwīl reveal the contours of the limbs, whereas the qamīs conceals them, something the ridāʾ does not do.
