War Instruments in the Purified Sunnah
42 – These items are likewise mentioned, though in separate reports, within the hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ.
The Sword
43 – With regard to the sword:
44 – In the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections (1) Anas narrates: “The Prophet ﷺ was the most handsome of people, the bravest of people, and the most generous of people. One night the people of Medina were startled by a noise and rushed toward it. The Prophet ﷺ met them on his way back, having already outrun everyone to the source of the sound and verified the situation. He was saying, ‘Do not be afraid, do not be afraid.’ He then added, ‘We found it to be a vast sea,’ or he said, ‘Indeed, it is a sea.’”
45 – Ibn ʿAbbās relates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the sword Dhu’l-Fiqār as his personal share on the Day of Badr. This was reported by Imām Aḥmad, Ibn Mājah, and al-Tirmidhī, who declared it “a fair (ḥasan) hadith.” (2)
