Weapons of War in the Noble Qur’an
31 – God, exalted is He, has mentioned the instruments of combat in His Book:
The Sword
32 – Regarding the sword, He says:
“I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve; so strike them upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.” (Al-Anfal, 12)
33 – He also says: “So when you meet those who disbelieve, strike their necks …” (Muhammad, 4). Such blows to the neck and fingertips are delivered with the sword.
The Bow and Arrow
34 – Concerning the bow and arrow, He says:
“Prepare against them whatever force you can and thoroughbred horses tethered for battle …” (Al-Anfal, 60)
35 – In Sahih Muslim (1) it is related from ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmir that the Prophet ﷺ recited this verse while standing on the pulpit: “Prepare against them whatever force you can and thoroughbred horses tethered for battle …” (Al-Anfal, 60), and then said, “Indeed, force is shooting; indeed, force is shooting; indeed, force is shooting.”
