(30) Alerting the Reader to the Weakening of Reports that al-Albani Declared Sound; both works are by the ḥadith scholar ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Duwaysh, may Allah have mercy on him.
As for the first, its author himself chose that title. In the case of the second, he—may Allah have mercy on him—died before giving it a name, so the publication supervisor, Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Aḥmad al-Mushayqiḥ, named it, and the Shaykh passed away before completing the two sections.
In addition, both books treat a number of issues that do not fall under either of those two headings, and together they count among the most beneficial ḥadith studies to have examined and debated the Shaykh’s scholarship.
His writings—may Allah have mercy on him—were marked by two qualities:
- the breadth of his reading and the precision of his critique;
- his respect for the Shaykh and his refined manners in rebuttal.
(31) Alerting the Muslim to al-Albani’s Transgression against Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, by Maḥmūd Saʿīd Mamduḥ.
This book is written in a peculiar style that betrays the author’s bias against the Shaykh and his learning, reviling him with phrases unbefitting of students of knowledge when addressing scholars; this caused people to turn away from the book.
Al-Albani replied to it in the introduction to Adab al-Zifāf fī al-Sunnah al-Muṭahharah (pp. 49–70).
Among those who refuted Mamduḥ are:
• His Eminence Shaykh Dr. ʿAbd al-Razzaq ibn Khalīfah al-Shayjī, in A Word of Truth in Defense of the Nation’s Luminary Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī. Although extremely concise, this is one of the most valuable and convincing rebuttals.
• Shaykh Ṭāriq ibn ʿAwad Allah ibn Muḥammad, in Repressing the Aggressor Who Trespassed against al-Albani.
ʿAlī ibn Ḥasan drew heavily on Repressing the Aggressor in his book Scholarly Studies on Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim—also titled Exposing the Informer: The Falsehoods of “Alerting the Muslim”—yet he made no acknowledgment of that benefit whatsoever.⦗1⦘
