It was published in the magazine ash-Shihab, then issued as an independent pamphlet under the same title; accordingly, I listed it in the Thabat, p. 81, no. 190.
(21) Laftatu al-Kabad [fi] Nasihati al-Walad (A Father’s Heartfelt Counsel to His Son) by Ibn al-Jawzi, with an introduction and notes prepared jointly with Shaykh Mahmud Mahdi Istanbuli—may Allah have mercy on him—(printed).
It appeared in the journal al-Tamaddun al-Islami in three instalments in 1374 AH (1).
The book was later published under the title Laftatu al-Kabad ila Nasihati al-Walad; therefore I entered it in the Thabat, p. 81, no. 191. See it there together with my comments.
(22) The Question of Fixing Dowries, [authored]—(printed).
It was published in the journal al-Tamaddun al-Islami, volume 28, pp. 514–519 (2).
(23) The Obligation of Tamattuʿ in Pilgrimage, [authored]—(printed).
It was published in the journal al-Tamaddun al-Islami, volume 32, pp. 761–770 (3).
[Note]
The Shaykh had an earlier article on the same issue in volume 32, pp. 31–37. The compiler of “the articles” did not mention it. Al-Tamaddun al-Islami referred to it in a brief editorial note placed at the beginning of the second article. The second piece was written to reaffirm the first and to rebut those who had criticized it. Allah knows best.
( … ) “With Professor al-Tantawi,” [authored].
That is, the eminent scholar, litterateur, and educator ʿAli al-Tantawi—may Allah have mercy on him.
It was mentioned in al-Asalah under this heading, and the writer remarked: “(See whether it is identical with ‘A Return to the Sunnah’?).” It is most likely so.
As far as I have been able to determine, the Shaykh produced two replies (articles) to his brother Shaykh al-Tantawi:
• The first: “The Hadith of the Cloud’s Shade Has a Firm Foundation,” already cited under that title;
• The second: a discussion with him on the questions of ittibaʿ (adherence), taqlid (blind imitation), ijtihad (independent reasoning), and the like.
See—if you wish—the note I appended at the end of “A Return to the Sunnah” above. Allah knows best.
