It was published in the journal al-Muslimun, volume 5, pp. 290–292 (1).
(17) “Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ṣaḥīḥah, together with Some of Their Jurisprudential Rulings and Benefits,” [authored] — (printed).
(18) “Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah wa-l-Mawḍūʿah and Their Harmful Effect on the Ummah,” [authored] — (printed).
The beginnings of these two “series” were consecutive articles the Shaykh used to write in the journal al-Tamaddun al-Islāmī. He started with the articles “Weak and Fabricated Hadiths and Their Harmful Impact on the Ummah,” the first of which he wrote on 26/8/1374 AH. Five years later—that is, in 1379 AH—the Shaykh began writing the articles “Authentic Hadiths.” He later gathered both sets, added a great deal to them, and printed them successively; therefore I recorded them in the Thabat, pp. 62–63, entries (116) and (117). See the note there.
(19) A Return to the Sunnah, [authored] — (printed).
Shaybani states in Ḥayāt al-Albānī (1/116 and 1/345–356) that “A Return to the Sunnah” is a series of articles that appeared in the journal al-Muslimun in Damascus. He included three of them:
(a) “The Shaykh’s Replies to the Readers of al-Muslimun” — he cited one of these;
(b) “A Refutation of Shaykh al-Ḥāmid concerning ‘The Hadiths of the Turban in Islam’ ”;
(c) “A Refutation of Professor Ṭanṭāwī regarding the hadith of ‘the cloud’s shade’.”
I have cited each of them in its proper place.
[Note]
Nūr al-Dīn Ṭālib, in Maqālāt al-Albānī (pp. 29–51), lists under the heading “A Return to the Sunnah” a lengthy article in which the Shaykh discusses with his brother, Professor ʿAlī al-Ṭanṭāwī—may Allah have mercy on him—questions of adherence, blind imitation, independent reasoning, and the like.
Hence one should examine whether al-Albānī’s discussion with his brother al-Ṭanṭāwī—may Allah have mercy on them both—belongs to the series “A Return to the Sunnah” mentioned by Shaybani, or whether it is an independent article bearing that same title. Allah knows best.
