(c) Among the works he rearranged:
(1) Tashhīl al-Intifāʿ bi-Kitāb Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān.
(2) al-Rawd al-Naḍīr fī Tartīb wa Takhrīj Muʿjam al-Ṭabarānī al-Ṣaghīr.
(d) Among the works in which he combined two books:
Al-Jamʿ bayna Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl wa Lisān al-Mīzān.
(e) Among the rarer titles he produced:
Muʿjam al-Ḥadīth al-Nabawī.
It is an anthology of selected ḥadiths that the Shaykh gathered from the manuscripts of the Ẓāhiriyyah Library and elsewhere, arranged alphabetically, and running to roughly forty volumes.⦗1⦘
As for his many source verifications, refutations, and annotations, they are too numerous to list here.
- His devotion—may Allah have mercy on him—to abridging his own works and those of others.
The Shaykh was eager to produce concise versions of books he considered beneficial for the public and for students of knowledge alike, so that all could profit from them.
Abridgements of his own writings include:
(a) Abridgement of Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz;
(b) Abridgement of Ḥijāb al-Marʾah al-Muslimah;
(c) Abridgement of Ṣifat Ṣalāt al-Nabī ﷺ;
(d) Mukhtaṣar al-Tawassul;
(e) Manāsik al-Ḥajj wal-ʿUmrah fī al-Kitāb wal-Sunnah wa Āthār al-Salaf wa Sard Mā Alḥaqa al-Nās Bihā min al-Bidaʿ.
Whoever reflects on these titles will see that they rank among his most useful works for Muslims in general; just as students of knowledge benefited from the originals, ordinary readers now benefit from the summaries.
Among his abridgements of other scholars’ works:
(a) Mukhtaṣar Tuḥfat al-Mawdūd fī Aḥkām al-Mawlūd by Ibn al-Qayyim;
(b) Mukhtaṣar al-ʿUlū lil-ʿAli (al-ʿAẓīm) wa Īḍāḥ Ṣaḥīḥ al-Akhbār min Saqīmihā by al-Dhahabī.
Moreover, he undertook to shorten the major isnād-based collections so as to bring them within people’s reach, such as:
(a) Mukhtaṣar al-Shamāʾil al-Muḥammadiyyah by al-Tirmidhī;
(b) Mukhtaṣar Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī;
(c) Mukhtaṣar Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim;
(d) and his work on the Four Sunan, classifying every ḥadith therein as sound or weak, falls under the same heading.
- His commitment—may Allah have mercy on him—to scholarly indexes.
