At times, moreover, he would, in the course of rebuttal, level an accusation against his opponent—something that should never have emanated from him. Among such instances is the following statement, made while debating his detractors on the issue of hijab:

(1) He and Zuhair enjoyed a close friendship; for a long time they followed the same path and cooperated in disseminating Salafi creedal works. Shaykh Zuhair—may Allah preserve him—devoted many years to circulating Albani’s scholarship and acquainting the ummah with it. One passage that comes to mind from what Shaykh Albani once wrote about his brother Shaykh Zuhair al-Shawish appears in the introduction to Khutbat al-Hajah, where he says (pp. 6–7): “As for this edition, it has been issued by our esteemed brother Ustadh Zuhair al-Shawish, proprietor of al-Maktab al-Islami for Printing and Publishing. He deserves the primary credit—in Syria and elsewhere—for printing books that propagate the sunnah, call to following the righteous forebears, and defend the purified sharia. May Allah reward him and grant him further success. Through him Allah facilitated the publication of a large number of books that I have authored or edited, among them: Mishkat al-Masabih, Ahkam al-Janaiz, Sifat Salat al-Nabi …” End of quote. Albani went on to list fifteen titles. This entire passage was later omitted from the new edition of the book. Likewise, in the preface to his edition of Riyad al-Salihin (p. 5) he wrote: “Our brother Ustadh Zuhair al-Shawish, proprietor of al-Maktab al-Islami and a benefactor in publishing hadith works and Salafi classics, asked me to undertake the critical edition of Imam al-Nawawi’s Riyad al-Salihin …” End of quote. Subsequently, relations between them deteriorated, and each began to speak ill of the other in their respective prefaces; Albani, in particular, was excessive in this regard and leveled various accusations against him. These prefaces then became an opportunity for the people of whims and innovations to gloat over the Salafis, something they displayed in their writings both openly and by insinuation.
