“Questions of [Abū] Jaʿfar [Muḥammad] ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah [to a group of] his teachers [on criticism and accreditation],” by Ibn Abī Shaybah, [verification].
Al-Shaybānī says in Ḥayāt al-Albānī (2/573):
“It exists, but [Albānī] no longer knows where he put it.”
A note on the book’s title:
Shaybānī and al-Qaryūtī mention it without the additions placed here in brackets, and shortening the title is not objectionable. Yet they record the name as “Jaʿfar ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah.” I believe this is incorrect. The form I have given is the accurate one. The Ibn Abī Shaybah family is a well-known scholarly line, and I know of no member called Jaʿfar ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah. The person I have cited—Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān—does have a collection entitled “Questions for His Teachers.” A copy is held in the Ẓāhiriyyah Library, miscellany 40/9, spanning six folios, sheets 206a–211a (1).
That is most likely the work intended, especially since it is preserved in the Ẓāhiriyyah. Allah knows best.
I later found it in the journal al-Aṣālah under the title “Masāʾil Abī Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah,” where the name is given correctly.
“Commentary on al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah,” by Ibn Abī al-ʿIzz, [hadith documentation] (published).
( … ) “al-Sharīʿah” = “Kitāb al-Sharīʿah.”
“al-Shihāb al-Thāqib fī Dhamm al-Khalīl wa-l-Ṣāḥib,” by al-Suyūṭī, [critical edition] (published).
“Ṣaḥīḥ al-Adab al-Mufrad,” by al-Bukhārī, [authored] (published).
( … ) “The Authentic Account of the Night Journey and Ascension (al-Isrāʾ wa-l-Miʿrāj), with the narration of their hadiths, their documentation, the clarification of what is sound and what is weak, and the presentation of all that is authentic in one continuous sequence in a unique and exquisite style unseen in any other book,” [authored].
He did not complete it.
It forms part of his larger project, “The Authentic Sīrah.”
See Ḥayāt al-Albānī (2/570).
It was previously listed under the title “al-Isrāʾ wa-l-Miʿrāj,” and I numbered it there because the Shaykh separated it from “the Sīrah.”
See “Ṣaḥīḥ al-Sīrah,” which follows, and Allah knows best.
[Note]:
This is how the Shaykh wrote the title on the book’s cover:
“Ṣaḥīḥ al-Isrāʾ wa-l-Miʿrāj …”.
