I came across a copy of al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr in a public library in Damascus that carried a dedication from Shaykh Nāṣir to that very library. At the beginning of the volume I noticed roughly (four) pages in which he refutes Imām al-Suyūṭī’s claim that his book is free from reports transmitted solely by fabricators and liars… It appears that Shaykh Nāṣir al-Dīn donated the book without realising he should first transcribe what he had written in that copy, so I tasked someone with locating it for me, but to no avail) (1).” End of quote.
[Note]
The title I have given these pages is of my own choosing, simply to indicate their subject matter, and is derived from the words of Shaykh Zuhayr al-Shāwish—may Allah preserve him.
“Refutation of ʿIzz al-Dīn Biliq concerning his Minhāj,” [authored].
That is: Minhāj al-Ṣāliḥīn min Aḥādīth wa-Sunnah Khātam al-Anbiyāʾ wa-l-Mursalīn.
“Refutation of ʿIzz al-Dīn Biliq in Mawāzīn al-Qurʾān wa-l-Sunnah li-l-Aḥādīth al-Ṣaḥīḥah wa-l-Ḍaʿīfah wa-l-Mawḍūʿah regarding the ḥadith of al-Turbah,” [authored] (printed).
Al-Shaybānī reproduced it in full (1/228–244). Four instalments of this refutation were published in the newspaper al-Raʾy al-Dīnī in Jordan, the last of them on 29/4/1983 CE, and the Shaykh referred to this in Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ṣaḥīḥah (4/664–665).
This refutation will appear later under the heading of the book Mawāzīn al-Qurʾān wa-l-Sunnah li-l-Aḥādīth al-Ṣaḥīḥah wa-l-Ḍaʿīfah wa-l-Mawḍūʿah.
[Further Note]
Al-Aṣālah reported that the series published in al-Raʾy was “The Refutation of ʿIzz al-Dīn Biliq concerning his Minhāj” mentioned above.
Upon closer examination of those articles, however, it seems to me that what appeared in al-Raʾy al-Dīnī was a response to the man’s overall thinking in general and to his two books in particular, and Allah knows best.
