And if the hadith verification (takhrij) is placed at the end of the book inside square brackets [ ], this means that the book belongs to another scholar and has been published in full, while the Shaykh’s own verifications appear only in the footnotes.
(10) When a book ends with the tag [Taḥqīq] (critical edition), it indicates that the Shaykh himself prepared the critical text, added annotations, and single-handedly traced its hadiths. If it ends with [Takhrīj] (hadith verification), the Shaykh’s role was limited to verifying the hadiths, while the critical editing and annotation were done by someone else—as is the case with Kalimat al-Ikhlāṣ by Ibn Rajab and al-Iḥtijāj bil-Qadar by Shaykh al-Islām.
(11) When I note beside a book “(not completed)” or “(missing),” this is only according to the sources available to me that list the Shaykh’s writings; he may, in fact, have finished some of them. One such source is Ḥayāt al-Albānī by al-Shaybānī, printed thirteen years before the Shaykh’s death (as will be mentioned). During that interval the Shaykh may well have completed what was unfinished or located what was lost. Allah knows best.
(12) The Shaykh revisited some of his books and added new reviews and annotations—because of his continual reading and research in hadith—so that his judgment on certain narrations changed. These works have not yet been printed with the updated commentary, and this should be kept in mind. Among them are: Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ, Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ, al-Muntakhab, and al-Radd ʿalā Risālat al-Taʿqīb al-Ḥathīth. I have even seen him frequently referencing Mishkāt with its new verification and commentary, but it has yet to be published.
(13) The Shaykh—may Allah have mercy on him—bequeathed everything in his library, whether printed or in manuscript form, to the Islamic University in Madinah (1).
(14) My work here is confined to listing the Shaykh’s writings in summary, not in detail. My objective was simply to publish their titles in alphabetical order. I benefited from the biographical sources on the Shaykh in transferring some of these titles, and my work may contain some inaccuracies or mistakes.
Allah is the One who grants success.
