under my guarantee—fifty on your behalf and one hundred and fifty on behalf of your three absent fellow purchasers. You have already paid the first man seventy-five under your guarantee. Pay me, therefore, the fifty I paid on your behalf, together with half of what remains of the one hundred and fifty I paid under my guarantee on behalf of your fellow purchasers, after deducting the seventy-five you paid under your guarantee—that is, thirty-seven and a half.” Once he has recovered this amount from him, he is left bearing one hundred and twelve and a half of what he paid under his guarantee.

Section

If he then also encounters the fourth man, from whom the first recovered fifty, he recovers sixty-two and a half from him, saying: “I am still bearing one hundred and twelve and a half of what I paid under my guarantee on your behalf and on behalf of your two absent fellow purchasers—thirty-seven and a half for you and seventy-five for your two absent fellow purchasers. You have already paid the first man twenty-five under your guarantee. Pay me, therefore, the thirty-seven and a half I paid on your behalf, together with half of what remains of the seventy-five I paid under my guarantee on behalf of your two fellow purchasers, after deducting the twenty-five you paid to the first man under your guarantee—that is, twenty-five. The total is thus sixty-two and a half,” as we have stated. Once he has recovered this amount from him, he is left bearing fifty of what he paid under his guarantee.

Section

If he then also encounters the fifth man, from whom the first recovered eighteen and three quarters, he recovers thirty-four and three eighths from him, saying: “I am still bearing fifty of what I paid under my guarantee, half on your behalf and half on behalf of your absent fellow purchaser. You have already paid the first man six and a quarter under your guarantee. Pay me, therefore, the twenty-five I paid on your behalf, together with half of what remains of the twenty-five I paid on behalf of your fellow purchaser, after deducting the six and a quarter

بالحمالة خمسون عنك ومائة وخمسون عن أصحابك الثلاثة الغائبين، وقد أديت أنت بالحمالة إلى الأول خمسة وسبعين فادفع إلي الخمسين التي أديت عنك ونصف ما بقي من المائة والخمسين التي أديت عن أصحابك بالحمالة بعد طرح الخمسة والسبعين التي أديتها أنت بالحمالة من ذلك وذلك سبعة وثلاثون ونصف؛ فإذا رجع عليه بذلك بقي له مما أدى بالحمالة مائة واثنا عشر ونصف. فصل ثم إن لقي أيضا الرابع الذي رجع عليه الأول بخمسين، رجع عليه باثنين وستين ونصف؛ لأنه يقول له بقي لي مما أديت بالحمالة مائة واثنا عشر ونصف، أديتها عنك وعن صاحبيك الغائبين سبعة وثلاثون ونصف عنك وخمسة وسبعون عن صاحبيك الغائبين، وقد أديت أنت بالحمالة إلى الأول خمسة وعشرين، فادفع إلي السبعة والثلاثين ونصفا التي أديت عنك ونصف ما بقي من الخمسة والسبعين التي أديت بالحمالة عن صاحبيك بعد طرح الخمسة والعشرين التي أديتها أنت إلى الأول بالحمالة، وذلك خمسة وعشرون فجميع ذلك اثنان وستون ونصف - كما قلناه، فإذا رجع عليه بذلك بقي له مما أدى بالحمالة خمسون. فصل ثم إن لقي أيضا الخامس الذي رجع عليه الأول بثمانية عشر وثلاثة أرباع، رجع عليه بأربع وثلاثين وثلاثة أثمان، لأنه يقول له بقي لي مما أديت بالحمالة خمسون أديت نصفها عنك ونصفها عن صاحبك الغائب بالحمالة، وقد أديت أنت بالحمالة إلى الأول ستة وربعا، فادفع إلي الخمسة والعشرين التي أديت عنك ونصف ما بقي من الخمسة والعشرين التي أديت عن صاحبك بعد طرح الستة وربع
