Book on the Protected Land Surrounding Wells
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
“We send down blessed water from the sky, bringing forth gardens and grain for harvest,” [Qāf: 9] “and lofty palm trees bearing clustered fruit,” [Qāf: 10] “as provision for Our servants. With it We revive a lifeless land. Such will be the resurrection.” [Qāf: 11]
He also says:
“We send down water from the sky in due measure and settle it in the earth, and We are certainly able to take it away.” [al-Mu’minūn: 18]
Mālik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about the interpretation of this verse: “According to what has reached you, does this refer to autumn?” He replied: “No, by Allah. Rather, this applies to autumn, winter, and everything else. Allah sends down water from the sky whenever He wills, and He is able to take it away.” Thus, all the earth’s water comes from the sky. Allah sends it down to the earth and causes it to remain there without disappearing, though He is able to remove it.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, also says:
“We have distributed it among them so that they may take heed, yet most people persist in ingratitude.” [al-Furqān: 50]
This refers to rain. It is also related that four rivers in this world come from Paradise: the Nile, the Euphrates, Shayhān, and Jayhān.
