Al-Muqaddimāt al-MumahhidātIbn Rush al-Jadd

On Water

The basis of this chapter is the saying of Allah, mighty and majestic:

“And We send down from the sky pure and purifying water.” [Al-Furqān: 48]

And His saying:

“And He sends down water upon you from the sky to purify you.” [Al-Anfāl: 11]

And His saying:

“And if you find no water, then seek clean earth.” [Al-Nisāʾ: 43]

It is also based on the statement of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when asked about the well of Budāʿah and the filth and impurities thrown into it: “Allah created water pure and purifying; nothing renders it impure except that which changes its colour, taste, or smell.” He means anything that changes one of its characteristics, as explained in the hadith cited earlier.

Section

The basic rule is that all water is pure and purifying: rainwater, seawater, river water
