to the children of her brothers and sisters is that her brothers and sisters are the nursed child’s maternal uncles and aunts, whose children are not among the child’s unmarriageable relatives. The marriage prohibition established by breastfeeding also extends, through the man to whom the milk is attributable, to his parents and all their ascendants; to his children and all their descendants, male and female; and to his brothers and sisters, paternal uncles and aunts, and maternal uncles and aunts themselves, but not to any of their children. Here too, the prohibition does not extend to the children of his brothers and sisters because his brothers and sisters are the nursed child’s paternal uncles and aunts through him, and their children are not among the child’s unmarriageable relatives. Through the nursed child, however, the marriage prohibition extends only to the child’s sons and daughters and their descendants. Success comes from Allah, glorified and exalted be He.

When a woman nurses a boy, she, all her female relatives within the prohibited degrees, and all such female relatives of the man to whom her milk is attributable become forbidden in marriage to him and to his children and their descendants, male and female, however far down the line of descent. Excluded are the daughters of her brothers and sisters and the daughters of the man’s brothers and sisters. This is because her brothers and sisters are the nursed child’s maternal uncles and aunts, while his brothers and sisters are the child’s paternal uncles and aunts; their children are therefore not among the child’s unmarriageable relatives. If she nurses a girl, that girl, her daughters, and the daughters of her sons, however far down the line of descent, become forbidden in marriage to her husband, to whom the milk is attributable, and to all his and her male relatives within the prohibited degrees. Excluded are the sons of his brothers and sisters and the sons of her brothers and sisters, for the reason already mentioned. Thus, no blood relative of the nursed child shares the child’s status with regard to this prohibition except the child’s children and their descendants, however far down the line of descent. This sums up and brings together the rulings of this chapter. Success comes from Allah, glorified and exalted be He.

Since we hold that, through the nursed child, the marriage prohibition extends only to the child’s children and their descendants, male and female, a man may marry his milk-son’s sister, his milk-son’s mother or any of her female ascendants, and his milk-brother’s mother, since no marriage prohibition exists between him and any of these women. This differs from blood relationships: a man may not marry his biological son’s sister, because she is his stepdaughter; nor his biological son’s grandmother, because she is his wife’s mother; nor his biological brother’s mother, because she is his father’s wife or the mother of his father’s child. Likewise, a woman may marry her milk-son’s brother and her milk-son’s father,
