marry anyone else during her lifetime. She, may Allah be pleased with her, died shortly after the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: three months later according to one account, six months according to another, and eight months according to a third.
There is disagreement concerning his male children by Khadījah. Some say there were four: al-Qāsim, from whom he took his kunyah, ʿAbd Allāh, al-Tayyib, and al-Tāhir. Others say there were three: al-Qāsim; ʿAbd Allāh, also called al-Tayyib because he was born in the Islamic era; and al-Tāhir. Still others say there were two: al-Qāsim and ʿAbd Allāh, who was also called al-Tāhir and al-Tayyib. According to this account, ʿAbd Allāh had three names.
Maʿmar related from Ibn Shihāb that some scholars said, “We know of no son she bore him other than al-Qāsim; she also bore him his four daughters.” According to reports, al-Qāsim lived long enough to walk.

An Account of His Wives—Peace Be upon Them
The wives of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, concerning whom there is no disagreement numbered eleven.
The first was Khadījah bint Khuwaylid al-Qurashiyyah al-Asadiyyah, of Banū Asad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā ibn Qusayy. She has already been discussed.
Then came Sawdah al-ʿĀmiriyyah, of Banū ʿĀmir ibn Luʾayy. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, married her in Mecca after Khadījah’s death. She had previously been married to a cousin of hers named al-Sakrān ibn ʿUrwah. He consummated his marriage to her in Mecca in the tenth year after the emigration. She was a heavy, slow-moving woman. She grew old while married to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he considered divorcing her. She said, “Do not divorce me; I release you from your obligations toward me. I only wish to be resurrected among your wives. I have given my day to ʿĀʾishah, and I do not desire what women desire.” So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, kept her as his wife until his death. She died after him, toward the end of ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb’s time.
