The Prophet’s Age When His Father Died, Peace Be upon Him
His father, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib, died while his mother was pregnant with him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It is also said that he died in Medina when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was twenty-eight months old. His grave is in Medina, in one of the houses of Banū ʿAdī ibn al-Najjār.
He had gone to Medina to procure wheat. It is also said that the Prophet was seven months old at the time, or two months old. His father had no child other than the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. His grandfather and paternal uncle therefore undertook his care. His grandfather, ʿAbd al-Muttalib, died in the ninth year reckoned from the Year of the Elephant. It is also said that he died when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was eight years old, or three years old. In his will, he entrusted the Prophet’s care to his son Abū Tālib. The Prophet remained in his care until he reached fifteen years of age, then began living independently.
Abū Tālib loved him, and he, in turn, was attached to Abū Tālib because of his standing among Banū Hāshim and his seniority. Moreover, Abū Tālib was his father’s full brother.

The Prophet’s Age When He Married Khadījah, May Allah Bless Him and Grant Him Peace, and His Children by Her
He married Khadījah bint Khuwaylid when he was twenty-one years old, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It is also said that he was thirty. She had been married twice before. It is said that she was then forty-three years old; alternatively, that she was forty and had been born fifteen years before the Year of the Elephant. It is related that he went on a trading journey, and Nastūr saw a cloud shading him and said, “This is a prophet.”
She died, may Allah be pleased with her, three years before the emigration to Medina, or, according to other accounts, four or five years before it. She was sixty-five when she died and was the first to believe in him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He took no other wife alongside her, and he married his other wives only after her death.
