If the choice is between the two obligations, it becomes fixed by the statement, as with choosing between the women or between divorce and emancipation.
If the choice is between two acts, it becomes fixed only through performance, as with choosing among the forms of expiation.
If the choice is between an act and a legal consequence—as when one says, “If I do such-and-such, then my slave is free, my wife is divorced, my blood is forfeit, my property is charity, or my sacrificial camel is an offering”—the legal consequence becomes fixed by the statement, whereas the act becomes fixed only through performance. Allah knows best.
Here ends what it was possible to complete, praise be to Allah. May Allah bestow His blessings and peace upon our master Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
