and she was instructed to offer expiation for an oath. He cited the report concerning Ibn Umar and Ibn Abbas, when they issued a ruling about someone who had sworn to emancipate his bondwoman and had sworn other oaths. He said, “As for the bondwoman, she is to be emancipated.” Al-Athram said: Al-Fadl ibn Dukayn narrated to us; Hasan [Abd Allah] ibn Abī Najīh narrated to us, from Atā, from Āisha, who said: “Whoever says, ‘My wealth is dedicated to the [door] of the Kaaba, all my wealth is an offering, and all my wealth is for the poor,’ should offer expiation for his oath.”

Al-Athram also said: Ārim ibn al-Fadl narrated to us; Mu'tamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us and said: My father said: Bakr ibn Abd Allah narrated to us; Abū Rāfi informed me, saying: “My mistress, Laylā bint al-Ajmā, said, ‘Every slave she owns is emancipated, all her wealth is an offering, and she is a Jew and a Christian if you do not divorce your wife or otherwise separate from her.’ I then went to Zaynab bint Umm Salama. Whenever a woman of learning in Medina was mentioned, Zaynab was among those named. I went to her, and she came with me to the other woman. Zaynab asked, ‘Are Hārūt and Mārūt in the house?’ She replied, ‘Zaynab, may Allah make me your ransom! She said: Every slave she owns is emancipated, all her wealth is an offering, and she is a Jew and a Christian.’ Zaynab said, ‘A Jew and a Christian? Leave the man with his wife.’ I then went to Hafsa, the Mother of the Believers. She sent for her, and she came. She said, ‘Mother of the Believers, may Allah make me your ransom! She said: Every slave she owns is emancipated, all her wealth is an offering, and she is a Jew and a Christian.’ Hafsa said, ‘A Jew and a Christian? Leave the man with his wife.’ I then went to Abd Allah ibn Umar, who came with me to her. He stood at the door and offered the greeting of peace. She said, ‘May my father be your ransom, and may my father be your father’s ransom.’ He said, ‘Are you made of stone or iron? What are you made of?
