“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they shade, Lord of the seven earths and all they bear, Lord of the devils and all whom they lead astray, Lord of the winds and all they scatter—I ask You for the good of this town and the good that is in it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil that is in it.” Reported by al-Nasāʾī and others.
When Taking Up Lodging
Khawlah bint Ḥakīm (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Whoever stops at a place of lodging and then says, “I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,” nothing will harm him until he departs from that spot.’” Reported by Muslim.
ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on a journey and night fell, he would say: ‘O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil within you, the evil that was created in you, and the evil of whatever moves upon you. I seek refuge in Allah from lion and beasts of prey, from snake and scorpion, from the dwellers of the land, and from any parent and what it begets.’” Reported by Abū Dāwūd.
