“Do you know what your Lord has said?” They answered, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “He has declared:
‘Some of My servants woke up this morning as believers in Me, while others woke up as disbelievers. Whoever said, “We have been given rain by the favor and mercy of Allah,” is a believer in Me and a disbeliever in the stars; but whoever said, “We have been given rain by such-and-such a star,” is a disbeliever in Me and a believer in the stars.’” Agreed upon.
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “A man entered the mosque on a Friday while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing delivering the sermon and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, our wealth has been destroyed and the roads are cut off; pray to Allah to grant us rain.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and said, ‘O Allah, send us rain! O Allah, send us rain!’
Anas continued, ‘By Allah, we could not see a single cloud in the sky, not even a wispy one, and there was no building or house between us and Mount Salʿ. Suddenly a cloud like a shield rose from behind it; when it reached the middle of the sky, it spread out and then it rained. By Allah, we did not see the sun for an entire week.
‘The next Friday, a man came in through that same door while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing delivering the sermon and said, “O Messenger of Allah, our wealth has been destroyed and the roads are cut off; pray to Allah to withhold it from us.” The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said, “O Allah, around us and not upon us; O Allah, on the hills, the small elevations, the valley bottoms, and the places where trees grow.” The clouds dispersed, and we went out walking in the sunshine.’” Agreed upon.
