Concerning the Wind

Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The wind is from the mercy of Allah: it may come bearing mercy and it may come bearing punishment. When you perceive it, do not revile it; rather ask Allah for its good and seek refuge with Him from its evil.’” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and Ibn Mājah.

ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “Whenever the wind blew hard, the Prophet ﷺ would say, ‘O Allah, I ask You for its good, the good that is within it, and the good with which it has been sent. I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil that is within it, and the evil with which it has been sent.’” Reported by Muslim.

She also narrated: “When the Prophet ﷺ saw clouds rising on the horizon, he would stop what he was doing—even if he was in prayer—and say, ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from their evil.’ If rain then fell, he would say, ‘O Allah, a beneficial, wholesome downpour.’” Reported by Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, and Ibn Mājah.
