Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Saying ‘subḥān Allāh’ (Glory be to Allah), ‘al-ḥamdu lillāh’ (all praise is due to Allah), ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh’ (there is no god but Allah), and ‘Allāhu akbar’ (Allah is greatest) is dearer to me than everything over which the sun rises.” Recorded by Muslim.
Samurah ibn Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The four words most beloved to Allah the Exalted are: ‘subḥān Allāh,’ ‘al-ḥamdu lillāh,’ ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh,’ and ‘Allāhu akbar.’ It does not matter with which of them you begin.” Recorded by Muslim.
Muslim also relates from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he asked, “Is any one of you incapable of earning a thousand good deeds each day?” It was said, “How could one earn a thousand good deeds?” He replied, “Let him say ‘subḥān Allāh’ one hundred times; a thousand good deeds will be recorded for him, or a thousand sins will be removed from him.”
Muslim likewise reports from Juwayriyah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet ﷺ left her house at dawn after he had performed the morning prayer while she was sitting in her place of worship. He returned mid-morning and found her still seated. He said, “Have you remained in the same state since I left you?” She replied, “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ then said, “After leaving you I have recited four phrases three times; if they were weighed against everything you have said today they would outweigh them: ‘subḥān Allāh ʿadada khalqih’ (Glory be to Allah, as numerous as His creation), ‘subḥān Allāh riḍā nafsih’ (Glory be to Allah, in accordance with His own good pleasure)….”
