comes between me and my prayer and confuses my recitation?’ He ﷺ replied, ‘That is a devil called Khinzab. When you sense him, seek refuge in Allah from him and spit lightly to your left three times.’ I did so, and Allah removed him from me.” Recorded by Muslim.
Abū Zumayl said, “I asked Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), ‘Something troubles me within myself’—meaning a whisper of doubt. He answered, ‘Whenever you feel that, say: He is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden, and He has full knowledge of everything.’” Recorded by Abū Dāwūd.
Acceptance of the Divine Decree without helplessness or negligence
Allah the Exalted says: “O you who believe, do not be like those who disbelieved and said of their brothers when they travelled through the land or went out to battle, ‘Had they stayed with us, they would not have died or been killed,’ so Allah made that statement a cause of regret within their hearts. It is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah sees all that you do.” (Āl ʿImrān 3:156)
Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, though there is good in both. Strive for what benefits you, seek Allah’s help, and do not be helpless.”
